Palm Fauxmo

Palm Fauxmo

I didn’t actually mean for this photo to look like it came out of a Lomo, but it just sort of turned out that way. I should get some new batteries for my real LK-A and run a couple of rolls of film through it for old times’ sake. I do love that camera.

Behind the falls

In the cave

Behind the fall

From the cave

I love that there’s access to go behind the Upper Düden falls, into the caves where everything is dark and mysterious.

Roosters and guineas and hens

Rooster

Guineas

Leader of the pack

Believe it or not, I called to them and they came trotting up to me. Very curious birds.

Rita

Rita

One of the great things about being in an area that is so popular with travellers is that you get to meet a lot of interesting people who are passing through. Some, though, are extra-special, and Rita certainly falls into that category. She knocked our socks off with her sparkling personality and magic tango skills. Tango is something I wasn’t even aware was popular in Turkey, but now I’ve learned that there’s a group of nearly 1,000 tango enthusiasts and dancers in Antalya alone. So thanks, Rita, for showing me something about this place that was new to me. I’m glad you made it home safely and I hope to see you again soon.

Also, a thousand thanks to Yeşim, without whose surfable couch these encounters with fantastic visitors would not be possible.

Lunapark in spring

Lunapark

Dusk

I haven’t been to the Lunapark in ages. I must make some time to go before the weather gets out of control.

I can’t say I was familiar with this car before, but I absolutely adore it and I’d love to own one.

Misty mountain hop

Modern mountains

Even though the weather is getting warmer, there’s still a cool mist hanging over the mountains most days.

More from the falls

Downstream

Another of my favourite shots from Düden. Such a peaceful, quiet place, not just in spite of the rushing water but because of it.

Terrace life

Terrace life

It’s getting to be that time of year where it’s safe to go outside and spend time on the terrace… until June, when we all have to go back in again because of the heat.

Outdoor heating

Note to people from the future: this is what passed for outdoor heating in the 21st century, and we thought it was pretty great.

I’m not sure how things work where you live, but here people like to dine outdoors year-round. However, because winter is, you know, cold, adjustments have to be made. I love outdoor gas heaters— one can sit outside all day long and never get cold. Also, the gas is pretty to look at, kind of like having a magical heat tree.
