Heading into August

Elements

Uh-oh, it’s getting to be that time of year again, time for corny silhouette sunset shots. It’s not my fault; blame August. The weather is frying my brain.

Team pride

For Emirhan

People in Turkey have a lot of team loyalty. A lot.

I wonder what their downstairs neighbours think. Personally, I’d love it if my upstairs neighbours put something like that up in the summer— I’m not the least bit interested in professional sports, but I think it would be wonderfully effective at keeping the sun off my balcony.

Rush hour on fire

Wheels on fire

As someone who used to drive a car, I often wonder how many people sit in rush hour and have no appreciation of what’s going on around them. I remember many wasted hours spent sitting in traffic, being either too frustrated or too absorbed in music to notice a beautiful sunset or an interesting neighbourhood.

A short play break

Mindfulness

Looks like I’m not the only one who likes the mini-fountains at TerraCity.

A pleasure to walk

July walking

I love the new TerraCity mall, but what I love even more is the ankle-height fountain outside. When the weather is scorching it’s really nice to walk through the fountain and cool down for a moment.

Summer hobby

Shifting

This may sound crazy, but when the weather gets ridiculous in July and August, one of my favourite things to do is get on a delightfully Arctic air-conditioned bus, preferably one that’s not very crowded, and just ride it around. I like choosing buses that are on a route I’m not particularly familiar with, so I can see parts of the city that are new to me while catching up with podcasts or the latest music from my favourite artists. I also like taking photos sometimes, but mostly I just enjoy the ride.

Mid-summer sunset

Sunset

Even though we’re just over a month into summer, it’s starting to feel more like late summer here. The days are hot, don’t get me wrong, but there’s a sweetness in the air that reminds us autumn is coming.

Işıklar

Işıklar

Işıklar is one of the most popular areas of Antalya in terms of cafés and night life, and it’s one of the areas I know the least about. I’m finally doing something about that.

Building a collection

Building

I bought myself a walnut wine rack a few weeks ago (my first sort of grownup furniture purchase), and now friends have been bringing me bottles of wine as gifts. Wonderful.

Waffle Art

Double waffle bomb

I’m not sure how long Waffle Art has had a branch in Antalya, but we went to visit it today, and it was well worth it. Anika in particular enjoyed her waffle enthusiastically.
