The British are still coming, I’m warning you

Coffee Shmoffee

No sooner do I express my worries that Turkey is being assimilated into Britain… now Turkish Daily News reports that Coffee Republic is to start opening stores all over Turkey in July. Great. And yet we still don’t have a Starbucks or a Gloria Jean’s (either one enormously superior to Coffee Republic) down here. I bet we’ll get a Coffee Republic, though, you watch.

I’m officially annoyed.

I resemble that title yet in the past tense. Yet however the Americans are here all ready! Kahve Ruhyası opposite Cumhurriyet Meydeni. American!!! sodexho are taking over the world. I think a bit of competition in the coffee shop market can only lower prices and increase quality. I mean 5YTL for a cappucino is a bit steep but its still a sellers market in terms of decent coffee. Only in the last couple of months have you been able to get even remotely good coffee in Migros yet I still don’t understand the price differential between the “Filter coffee” 3 YTLish and the “Esspresso Coffee” 7 YTLish both of which are pretty much the same apart from the size of the grind.

@David: that whole stretch along the Konyaaltı road is turning into nothing but coffee houses… I never go into them, though, because I assume they’re all ritzy and expensive.

We still drink Nescafé here at home, only because it’s easy and I’m not so picky about coffee itself. Coffee drinks, on the other hand… I prefer Starbucks and Gloria Jean’s. I wish we’d get one or both of those.
