Don’t talk about my mother like that

Emirhan is planning a trip to China soon. Last night he was reading his Chinese phrasebook, and at one point he laughed out loud. He said, “this is presented under the heading of pleasantries, but it sounds vaguely insulting.” So I had a look at it.

I can tell already that we’re going to start using “please give my kind regards to your mother” as our standard sarcastic goodbye.

    Another Chinese phrase which doesn’t translate well outside the context of Chinese niceties and politeness.. it actually means what it says, and in a nice way (in the Mandarin!)..
