This resulted from a back room deal between baseball and hockey moguls to try and make ice hockey more of a mainstream sport, and actually was their “plan B.” Their original plan – having pitchers throw hockey pucks instead of baseballs – led to fourteen concussions and dozens of missing teeth in a single day of use, and was scrapped.
