This is the closest you’ll see to an April Fools’ joke from me— the crazy idea that Turkey equals camels. I’ve never, ever seen an actual Turk riding around on a camel in Turkey. The only place I’ve ever seen camels is in special designated tourist areas, as a novelty where foreigners can pay money to ride around on the camel and have their photos taken. I guess a lot of people who come to Turkey have this false notion that it’s a land of deserts and camels, which of course it’s not at all, but when tourism is one of the big revenue generators, sometimes I suppose you have to give visitors what they expect.
