Every time it rains in May or June, people here are fond of saying how it has “never happened before” and how Antalya is always blazing hot and unfalteringly sunny from April straight through to November. But the shocked disbelief at late spring thunderstorms is just a tendency toward melodrama— heavy rain in May and June is not at all unusual, and I have photographic proof from every year since arriving here in 2004. The above photo was taken just last year, on the 28th of June, and I have plenty of others like it, both from that year and previous years. Personally, I’m thankful that we get these refreshing breaks, as the heat in July and August can get pretty fierce.
