The Blonde Natasha

Blonde Natasha

Ever since I moved to Antalya this has been one of my favourite cocktails— amaretto and milk. It’s simple, but it’s very tasty, and a lot of people here drink these, especially in the summer.

I have a friend on twitter whose screen name (but not real name) is Natasha; I turned her on to this drink and she liked it so much that I decided to call it a Blonde Natasha, after her. Of course, in this part of the world, the word “Natasha” has a double meaning (other than just a girl’s name), but I assure everyone it’s just a coincidence and that if her screen name had been Jennifer I would’ve called the drink a Blonde Jennifer.

As for the double meaning, well, have a guess in the comments if you think you know what it is, what else the word “Natasha” is sometimes used for in this area. I’ll give you a hint: it’s very very politically incorrect. But don’t shoot the messenger, I’m just reporting.

But lots of drinks are made with milk or cream… have you never had a White Russian? Or a glass of Bailey’s? And frozen alcoholic drinks with ice cream are the best. Mmmmmm, chocolate vodka milkshakes.

Hmmm. Yeah, now that you mention it I have had drinks with cream. Colorado Bulldogs are yummy and I love chocolate ice cream drinks! I don’t think I’ve ever had any drink that uses milk rather than cream which is probably what made it sound so odd to me…

I remember the references to “Natashas” from my days working in Side. To do with imported professional ladies of the night. Particularly from russia and former Eastern Block countries.

Try some Kahlua in the Blonde Natasha…mmmm! Maybe rim with cinnamon and mash in some ginger…?

@hands on: bingo, you got it.

Kahlua in anything sounds great to me… I’ve been vaguely looking for ginger for cooking purposes, but no luck yet.

  15. […] Basically this is a machine that makes fruity-slushy-icey-sno-cone-type drinks, and the joke here is the play on words with Aspendos, the ancient Greco-Roman city near Antalya. Get it, Icependos? Anyway, it’s not knee-slappingly funny, but I did think it was clever in a cheesy way. Incidentally, the Icependos machine is broken tonight, so I can’t report what they taste like. The Blonde Natashas here are good, though. […]

Yummmm – the Blonde Natasha looks good… will have to try it! And lots of other good ideas from other comments… Nothing like thinking about what to drink after work when it’s only a little after 10:00am in not so sunny CA. hehe
